This week, we welcomed the following talented artists who will be taking part in our music festival, 24:1900.
Virgin Orchestra (Iceland)
“Reykjavik’s most exciting new band” (The Face).
Virgin Orchestra blend brooding post-punk textures with lush classical arrangements, electronic flourishes, and sweeping shoegaze influences. Oh yeah!
Think of a heady mix of My Bloody Valentine, Warpaint, The Cure, and a touch of Portishead’s trip-hop melodrama, and you’re there.
Run! Run! Jump! Punch! (France)
“As if Blink 182 met Jean-Michel Jarre” (Run! Run1 Jump! Punch! (RRJP_ Bandcamp profile)
RRJP creates an energetic and joyful fusion of punk rock and chiptune, blending punchy guitars with retro video game synths in a style sometimes dubbed “chiprock” or “chippunk”.
It is fun, unique, and bloody skillfully done.
Radio Cutipa (Bolivia)
Radio Cutipa is a band that seeks to explore and revive indigenous Bolivian music, using contemporary tools and instruments, to deliver modern slices of what we’re calling Boliviana folktronica.
Marked by energetic rhythms, folkloric melodies, and a forward-thinking approach that preserves Bolivian identity while feeling fresh and contemporary, Radio Cutipa reminded us a little of Manu Chao. Ultimately it is global fusion, folkloric electronica, and modern Latin American experimental.
